Flashback: Kakohori, 1921. Newborn Pavlis Drakakis survives on the mercy of Eleni Kazaki who defies the age-old vendetta between the two families and agrees to nurse the baby, when his mother’s milk runs dry. Eleni has recently given birth to her own son, Stefanis. The two of them grow up as brothers, despite the blood feud. But evil always keeps at bay, and when Pavlis’s brother, Giorgis, gets killed, his father swears Pavlis to repay blood with blood. Fully aware of his fate, Stefanis is determined to die. But Pavlis cannot bear to take his friend’s life, and the two of them become blood-brothers instead. Stefanis hides in the mountain cave, while Pavlis sets in motion his plan to stop the vendetta once and for all. He enlists Drakojohn, his rich uncle who lives in America, to help him. The three of them manage to outsmart the villagers; Drakojohn returns to the village after decades of making a fortune abroad. He reveals that Stefanis is still alive and the two boys become a symbol of reconciliation. To celebrate the newfound peace, Drakojohn builds a chapel in the name of St. George to commemorate Pavlis’s brother, the last victim of the vendetta. But the curse strikes again during the inaugural Mass, with almost the entire congregation ending up dead – including Pavlis and Stefanis who get hit by the same bullet across their chest. The church yard turns into a cemetery, filled with tombstones; the names engraved on them read either Drakakis or Kazakis, followed by the same date of death: July 12th 1921.
